AC Milan have terminated the contract of their head coach Marco Giampaolo just seven matches into the 2019-20 Serie A season.

The Rossoneri are currently 13th on the Italian League table with just nine points so far this campaign.

Giampaolo was appointed new manager of the club this summer - replacing club legend Gennaro Gattuso as the new head coach at the San Siro.

Football Italia however reports that the 52-year-old could be succeeded by former Fiorentina and Inter boss Stefano Pioli.

The seven time Champions League winners have since announced the departure of the manager on the club's official website.

“AC Milan announces it has relieved Mr. Marco Giampaolo from his position as coach of the First Team," a statement by the club said.
"The Club is grateful to Marco for the work carried out and wishes him all the best to come in his professional career," the statement added.

Giampaolo managed just three wins out of their last seven matches - losing 12 out of a possible 21 available in the past matches.

Despite guiding his side to a 2-1 away win against Genoa last weekend, it was not enough to save his job few days after the victory.

Milan were said to be interested in hiring Luciano Spalletti, but they could not agree terms with their city rivals over severance package with the coach.

The Red and Blacks have however turned to Pioli, who could put pen to paper according to Football Italian is likely on a one-year contract with the option of a second.
