– Mesut Ozil was conspicuously absent from the Arsenal squad as the Gnners succumbed todefeat against Manchester City
– Mikel Arteta played down the German absence as he reiterated it was purely tactical
– Ozil took to social media to make his feelings known on his Arsenal career
Arsenal playmaker Mesut Ozil took to social media on Thursday, June 18 to make his feelings known after being left out of the matchday squad against Manchester City a day earlier.
Despite being fully fit, the German international seemed to not be in Mikel Arteta’s plans for the day as the Gunners succumbed to a lowly 3-0 defeat at the Etihad.
Arteta was asked after the game why he left out the German, who is known for his superb awareness of the game and a unique ability to pick an impossible pass.
According to the Arsenal gaffer, the decision was purely ‘tactical’.
“Because I need players in other positions as well and that’s the reason I decided to leave him out,” Arteta told reporters.
The Gunners are in action again on Saturday against Brighton and Hove Albion, where it remains to be seen whether Ozil will get the chance to earn his wages on the pitch.
As TUKO.co.ke reported, the 31-year old was at loggerheads with Arsenal’s previous boss Unai Emery, who thoroughly questioned his work ethic.
Emery preferred the likes of Bukayo Saka, Dani Ceballos and Ainsley Matiland Niles to Ozil as he felt they worked for the team better.
