- Giroud has started just one match in four of Chelsea's matches of the new season

- He is currently playing second fiddle to Tammy Abraham who is Blues' first choice striker

- Abraham has repaid Lampard's faith in him with four goals

Olivier Giroud as made it clear he is keen to win his place back in Chelsea's starting line-up after falling down the pecking order under Frank Lampard.

Lampard has appeared to put his faith in the youth since replacing Maurizio Sarri as the new club boss.

The Englishman's approach has seen Giroud lose his starting place to youngster Tammy Abraham, with the former Arsenal hitman starting just one of Chelsea’s four Premier League matches so far this season.

Abraham, on his part has not let his new manager down, scoring an impressive four goals already to nail a starting role as Chelsea’s first-choice forward.

Giroud is now staring at an uncertain future at the club, despite playing a pivotal part in the Blues' Europa League triumph last season.

It is a similar predicament the 32-year-old found himself under Sarri as he found it difficult to break into Chelsea’s starting XI.

But speaking on his limited game time, the Frenchman insisted he still has something to prove at the London club, adding his presence in the team will inspire the youngsters.

"I have goals in my head. I’m here to help the next generation, but the time for retirement has not come. I’m still hungry and have a lot of ambition," he said.
"I don’t want to be Chelsea’s No.2 striker, for sure. Just because I’m here as an older brother for the younger players, it doesn’t mean I’m out on the sidelines," he noted.

Meanwhile, the Blues' shaky start to the new campaign has them sitting 11th on the Premier League log with five points.

The side will travel to Molineux on Saturday, September 14, to face Wolves in their next league match.
