Patrick Day has died of head injuries four days after his fight against Charles Conwell in an undercard match.

The American super-welterweight was knocked down twice in the fourth and eight round before hitting the canvass in the tenth.

The referee immediately stopped the bout and called for the paramedics team before Day was quickly rushed to hospital.

A brain surgery was conducted on the fighter only for promoter Lou DiBella to confirm on Wednesday, October 16, Day had succumbed to the injuries.

"He was a son, brother, and good friend to many," a statement confirming his death said.
"Pat's kindness, positivity, and generosity of spirit made a lasting impression with everyone he met," the statement added.

On his part, opponent Conwell, who is just 21-year-old regretted the outcome of the bout, insisting he never meant it to happen.

"I never meant this to happen to you, all I wanted to do was win. If I could take it all back, I would. No-one deserves this to happen to them," he said.
