The governor has been under investigation since February.

Detectives from Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) have arrested Samburu Governor Moses Lenolkulal over Ksh84-million-fuel-supply scandal.

The governor who is currently locked up at the EACC headquarters at Integrity Centre in Nairobi was arrested Tuesday morning and is expected to be arraigned in court later today.

According to the Director of Public Prosecution Noordin Haji, there is enough evidence to prosecute the county boss for conspiracy to commit an economic crime, Abuse of Office and Conflict of Interest.

“The investigations established that the Governor, Moses Kasaine Lenolkulal was trading with the County Government through Oryx Service Station for the supply of fuel since the 27 March 2013 to date. The Governor failed and or neglected to disclose his interest in the said Service Station. It is clear that the Governor engaged in conduct that is expressly prohibited in law and in clear violation of the constitutional principles governing the conduct of public and State Officers” the DPP said in a statement.

“During the period in question, Oryx Service Station received a total of Ksh.84,695,996.55 from the County Government. The aforesaid amount was shared between the Governor and his proxy Hesbon Ndathi (a businessman),” he added.

The DPP has further directed the prosecution of 13 top county employees over the scandal including deputy governor Julius Leseeto.

Other officials include Stephen Letinina (county secretary), Danile Lenolkirina (Chief Finance Officer), Josephine Lenasalia (former Chief Officer Environment) and Reuben Lemunyete (Chief Officer Agriculture) Geoffrey Kitewan (Head Supply Chain Management) businessman Hesbon Ndathi are among those who will be arraigned.

The governor has been under investigation since February. He has however denied the claims alleging witch hunt and political mischief in his arrest over alleged graft.
