- K'Ogalo and Ingwe are among a number of KPL clubs who have been enjoying direct sponsorship from SportPesa

- The betting company withdrew the partnership in August following a tussle with KRA over tax evasion

- The firm has however come out to reiterate its commitment to development of sports in the country

Giant betting firm, SportPesa, has pledged to continue its sponsorship for Kenya Premier League clubs, Gor Mahia and AFC Leopards.

The two clubs are among a host of others which have been heavily relying on support from SportPesa in their operations.

The outfits were staring at an uncertain future after reports emerged the betting company could cut funding for sports activities once they resume operations.

However, SportPesa has come out to deny such a plot, insisting it remains committed to sports development in the country.

“We will review the business position pursuant to this and determine the areas of sponsorships that we will be able to support," the Star quoted the company's Head of Communication Jean Kariuki.
"We remain committed to sports development in the country and we will aim to restart sponsorship of all our previous agreements, to the best of our ability,” she added.

SportPesa, who were among 27 betting firms whose licenses were revoked over alleged tax evasion announced in August cancellation of all sports sponsorship deals.

At the time, the Ronald Karauri-headed company cited "a challenging business environment" as reason that informed the decision.

Earlier, TUKO.co.ke reported Sportpesa has revealed plans to make a stunning comeback two months after a paybill blackout that left them counting losses.

Sportpesa, which was arguably the biggest casualty in the government’s efforts to crack the whip on the betting craze in the country, were handed a lifeline after they were cleared by the Kenya Revenue Authority on Tuesday, September 3.
