- The company has however made a return to the market after being cleared by cleared by Kenya Revenue Authority

- They were initially set to resume operations in July but had to wait for the government's nod

Sports betting firm Betway have announced their comeback nearly two months after the Betting Control and Licensing Board (BCLB) revoking their license.

Betway were among a host of betting companies whose services were suspended after failing to meet laid regulations.

The suspension culminated to closure of paybill numbers of blacklisted firms bringing them to a near shutdown.

However, after weeks of push and pull, Betway have found their way back having fully complied with the requirements.

In a statement sent to newsrooms, the firm intimated Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) and the licensing board had given them the greenlight to have their services restored.

"Betway has relentlessly worked with relevant authorities and is glad to have been recognised for its strict levels of compliance having fulfilled requirements by BCLB and other relevant government bodies," the statement said.

The firm further confirmed it had introduced the 20% withholding tax that will be applied to all winnings.

Meanwhile, SportsPesa and BetIn, who are among the market leaders are yet to have their licences renewed.

They have however since moved to court to challenge the government over suspension of their paybill numbers.
