The prime suspect in the murder of Moi University Student Ivy Wangechi will undergo a mental evaluation to determine whether he is fit to stand trial.

Eldoret Senior Resident Magistrate Nichodemus Moseti ordered Naftali Kinuthia undergoes psycho evaluation.

At the same time he ordered Kinuthia remain in custody for two weeks pending the completion of investigations.

Kinuthia who was whisked into the court cells under tight security had head and hand injuries, while his face had multiple scars that he sustained after he was beaten by the public who accosted him after the murder of the medical student.

Earlier on, court proceedings were temporarily interrupted as students thronged the Eldoret High Court to have a glimpse of the suspect.

Kinuthia who was calm and composed was whisked back to court cells after application by the state.

The late Ivy will be laid to rest on Thursday in Nyeri County.
