Tiger Power died a few days ago at the age of 73.
Tributes from Kenyans are still pouring in and now the Ministry of Sport and Culture are revealing details about the kind of man he was prior to his death.
In October 2018, Tiger Power was among Kenyan heroes honored at the Mashujaa day event on 20th October, that went down in Kakamega.
Tiger Power aka Conrad Njeru Karukenya was a renwoed athlete who was among 176 heroes honored for his enduring and uncommon talent.
The special tribute from the ministry reveals that during the Mashujaa eve party on 19th October, Tiger Power volunteered to give a pep talk to fellow honorees, winning the hearts of many. He urged honorees to practice the virtues of discipline, hard work and patriotism.
PS Josephta Mukobe wrote;
True, we are gifted differently. Many of us have ‘silent’ abilities. Tiger Power’s talent was literally dramatic. Talent-wise ,while most of us are average, occupying the base and middle of life’s pyramid, Karukenya was poignant at the apex.
We are pleased, that as he decreased his active engagement in muscle Showmanship, Tiger Power undertook an itinerary of schools and colleges,transfering skills and educating the youth on the health risks of alcohol and drug abuse.
His simple message, as borne by his personal life ,was that ‘Sports and drugs is an untenable mixture’.
Rest in Peace, Conrad Njeru Karukenya
