Mean Machine’s bid to avoid relegation suffered a blow yesterday as they lost 25-10 to Impala Saracens in a Kenya Cup round 15 match played at the RFUEA grounds.

As a result, the University of Nairobi side remains at the bottom of the standings with 11 points while the bonus point win saw Impala cement their spot in the top six.

Festus Shiasi gave the students an early lead, scoring a penalty from an acute angle. Impala did not take much time in finding a response as Kelvin Ronoh forced his way over the whitewash but Xavier Bett missed the ensuing conversion.

Bett would soon get it right as he scored a penalty to give Impala an 8-3 advantage.

Machine retook the lead as Shiasi converted Paul Ekirapa’s try.

The lead changed hands yet again as Anthony Odhiambo took advantage of Machine’s sloppy defending to score an unconverted try for Impala.

Machine winger Victor Shaviya had his try disallowed on the stroke of halftime with the referee citing a forward pass in the build-up.

Anthony Nyandigisi and Billy Omomdi then scored two tries for Impala, one being converted as they claimed the win.

In another match, Menengai Oilers came from behind, scoring one converted try in the second half coupled with three penalties to beat Homeboyz 26-24.

Homeboyz started the contest on the front foot and they were awarded an early penalty.
