Talanta taught newly-promoted Vihiga Bullets a lesson on the opening day of the 2019-20 National Super League season with a 3-1 win at Camp Toyoyo over the weekend to lay down an early marker in the race for premier league promotion.
New signing Anthony Oginga scored twice on his debut while Brian Juma added a third to seal Abdallah Juma’s first win of the season.
Juma, who is eyeing to take the club to the premier league for the first time, said he expects his boys to improve and play much better when they face former Kenya Premier League (KPL) outfit Vihiga United in Mumias.
“This is a new season and we start afresh looking to improve from our last season performance. We started well and scored an early goal that was good but we need to be clinical and kill matches early if we are to maintain winning,” Juma said in an interview with Standard Sports.
He reminded his players that it is still early and they stillhave a lot ahead of them.
“Last season we were not consistent with our results and that has to change this year. We need to keep working hard and maintain the tempo,” he said.

At the same stadium, last year’s second runner-up Nairobi Stima were also off to a flying start after blowing away Northern Wanderers 8-0 in a one-sided match.
Stima missed attaining KPL promotion on a whisker after finishing third with 80 points, same as Kisumu All Stars, but with an inferior goal-difference and head coach Leonard Odipo has his eyes fixed on rectifying that.
“Last season was painful for the team to lose out on the automatic qualification spot because of goals. This year we are ready to make sure that doe not happen again because we won many matches that we are aiming to attain again this year,” Odipo said.
