More than 120 golfers will contest at the Standard County Golf Classic which will tee off at the par 72 Machakos Sports Club tomorrow.
There is plenty of action that starts at 7 am at the only course in eastern Kenya. The four-ball comprises D Kikuyu, J Kioko, S Mose and a post entry player expected off the deck. The afternoon tee off is set for 10:50 am to allow for a hold up free round for all golfers.
Resident golfers will be up against players from neighbouring clubs that include Kenya Railways Golf Club, Ruiru Sports Club, Thika Barracks Golf Club and Kenya Airforce Golf Club. Others are Nakuru Golf Club, Karen Golf and Country Club, Limuru Golf and Country Club, Sigona Golf Club, Nyanza Golf Club and Royal Nairobi Country.
Club's Vice Captain Joe Mboya, former captain Leonard Kamba and former club chairman Collins Kaloki will contest for top prizes banking on home course advantage.
Other are Susan Ndolo, who plays off handicap 20 and Nairobi County Executive for Environment Larry Wambua, handicap five.
"We are happy to host Standard County Classic Golf tournament at the beginning of the year. The course is in good condition and golfers will have a great experience," said Club Captain Musembi Katuku.
"It will be no easy for golfers here given that the course remains as one of the most challenging one around the region and there are challenges in hole number seven on the first nine. Not all is set to be easy out there keeping in mind our course terrain remains one the most challenging one around the region coupled with the challenges presented on hole number seven on the front nine."
Standard Group Chief Executive Officer Orlando Lyomu will lead the chase for the company's staff prize and he will tee off at noon paired with Machakos Sports Club Chairman Sawarn Singh, B Mung'ata, T Ruhiu and Club captain Katuku.
Standard Group's human resource director Nicholas Siwatom, who tees off at 12.20pm, will be off the deck with Nakuru Golf Club captain Robert Obondy and D Ndungu.
The showpiece is the second in the 2019 calendar and it seeks to provide for a networking platform for Standard Group and clients.
