Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal investigations have arrested three police officers who were caught on video whipping and dragging a woman on a motorbike.
“Three officers were yesterday arrested by detectives following the circulation of a video depicting a woman being whipped & dragged on a motorbike in Kuresoi South Sub-County,” said the DCI.
“The suspects are in lawful custody helping with further investigations into the matter.”
The victim was taken to Olenguruone Sub-County Hospital after she suffered a broken leg and soft tissue injuries on the arm with a wound on the head.
On Wednesday, the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) launched investigations into the incident that caused an uproar on social media.
“IPOA, on its own motion has launched investigations into the allegations of assault, injury and any other misconduct against the police officers,” said IPOA through a statement.
“The authority will make appropriate recommendations if culpability is established,” said IPOA.
Meanwhile, the Police oversight authority has also condemned the killing of a police officer in Lamu on June 8th.
Constable Rodger Odhiambo Otieno was attacked on his way home.
