Tuskys takes community initiative to Uasin Gishu County

As a continuation of the ‘Tuskys in the Community’ initiative by Tuskys Supermarkets, the retailer has donated 10 maternity beds to go towards the facilitation of the opening of a maternity wing in at Ngelel Tarit Health Centre, Uasin Gishu  County.

Speaking during the event, Tuskys CEO Dan Githua re-affirmed Tuskys commitment to bettering the community through the roll-out of the community outreach across the country.

“As an organization, we made a commitment earlier in the year to invest in the ‘Tuskys in the Community’ programme to ensure that we have a positive impact on the community around us. So far we have managed to give back in the areas of education and now health, and we are looking forward to bringing more impact, as this is the backbone on which our organization was founded”, said Mr Githua.

The chairman of Ngelel Tarit Health Centre, Mr David Langat applauded Tuskys for the initiative and noted that the gesture will go a long way in providing quality healthcare to expectant mothers.

“The gesture by Tuskys Supermarkets to provide 10 maternity beds will go a long way in helping us actualize our plan of setting up a maternity wing in the Ngelel Tarit Health Centre. This maternity wing will go a long way in helping up handle the immediate cases in this area, which has been a challenge in the past, and for this we are grateful”, said Mr Langat.

Tuskys in the community is an initiative that was designed to celebrate the legacy of the Late Founder, Mzee Joram Kamau who always entrenched the values of being charity and kindness to the Tuskys staff.

Concurrently, the 16th Annual Tuskys Wareng cross country was held on Sunday at Huruma Grounds in Eldoret- Uasin Gishu Country where the top winners were awarded with two brand new cars.

“We particularly proud of the continued engagement we have had with the community around Wareng by way of this cross country. The high number of participants this year goes to affirm the impact that Tuskys Supermarkets has continued to have on the people”, Said Mr Dan Githua.

“We pleased to be able to not only award the best performers but to also be able to attract and nurture the young talent that we know exists here”, added Mr Githua.

The just concluded race attracted over 2000 participants in various categories ranging from children, Junior and Senior categories.

Tusky’s CEO Daniel Githua is joined by other partners to award Agnes Kiprop, the winner of this year’s Tuskys Wareng 10km women race with a brand new car. Ms Kiprop was among 4,000 other people who participated in the 14th edition of the Tuskys Wareng Race held at Huruma Grounds in Eldoret on Sunday.

In the most competitive races, the Senior men and women 10km, World 10, 000m Bronze medalist Agnes Tirop bagged the women’s title while World 10, 000m under-20 champion Rhonex Kipruto, won the men category.

Tirop won the Senior Women 10km race in 33:10:5 and was closely followed by Norah Jeruto and Sandrafelis Chebet and in second and third place respectively.

Kipruto won the men’s race in 29:38:1 after finishing the race ahead of Davies Kimeli and Shadrack Kimutai who completed in second and third places respectively.

Tuskys Wareng Cross Country was started in 2005 as a road race, and has over time become an annual cross country that is aimed at nurturing young sporting talent.
