DAILY POST: US, UK and FRANCE had warned UHURU’s government over possible Al SHABAAB terror attack in NAIROBI – NIS and MI ignored. Politics, Politics. 04:25
Wednesday January 16, 2019-Dusit D2 hotel terrorist attack could have been averted and the aftermath
handled well if Kenya’s intelligence agencies acted on information given by
their US and UK counterparts in December last year, a senior CIA official has
said. The official, who requested anonymity, said the warnings had been passed on several times to Kenya intelligence, adding that they had been frustrated not to see a greater response from Kenya’s authorities. He said they wrote to Kenya’s National Intelligence Service (NIS) and Military Intelligence (MI) warning them of a possible Al Shabaab terror attack during the Christmas holiday or after the New Year. However, a Kenya’s NIS official admitted receiving the intelligence but said the Somali based ragtag confused security officials by changing target locations. “We were on high alert from November last year but the Dusit D2 hotel attack caught us off guard. We should have acted more on the information given by US and UK governments,” the NIS officer said. France has also said its intelligence had warned Kenya government of a terror attack after the Christmas holiday.
