‘Why I have not jumped onto the #PlayKeMusic hashtag’ Shaffie Weru speaks

The debate about Kenyan music not getting enough airplay on radio or TV, is escalating quite fast. Kenyan artistes are complaining that Radio presenters and Djs are not playing Kenyan songs as much as they play international, Naija and Bongo songs.

This discussion has been going on for years and most times it’s always a blame game.

There’s even a hashtag, #PlayKeMusic that has gone viral with guys stating that Kenyans should support their own and play our music.

Now, not everyone understands how the music industry operates, but at the end of the day, people want good music that they relate to and that they can listen to over and over again.

Shaffie Weru is a radio presenter, that’s not news and he’s worked for Kiss FM for a couple of years now.

Speaking to Shaffie in an exclusive interview, he revealed the reason why has not joined other celebrities and personalities in the trending #PlayKeMusic.

“The reason as to why I haven’t jumped onto any hashtag, the reason as to why I have not jumped into any TL, the reason as to why I have not jumped onto any conversation publicly on social media is because I don’t trust half of the people who have started that particular conversation, coz half of them have their own agenda. Just to put it blatantly, my career as a radio presenter started at Kiss 100, on radio by doing a Kenyan show. It was called Keeping it Kenyan.”
