In a statement to newsrooms on Thursday, June 6, the Njoroge announced that the first batch of the new currency was already dispatched to commercial banks , and it was expected to be in full circulation in the next few days.
Kenyans on social media could not hide their jubilation with some asking to be given the top ten serial numbers of the notes.
The new currency notes which were launched on June 1 during Madaraka Day celebration at Narok Stadium faced opposition from the onset with some arguing it had the image of former president Jomo Kenyatta which was against the Constitution.
Former Kamukunji MP Simon Mbugua moved to court to challenge the use of Kenyatta's image arguing the decision by CBK violated article 23 (14) of the constitution and should be annulled.
Kenyans have until October 1 to exchange the old KSh 1,000 notes for the new ones.
