The County Government of Mandera has launched a six-year plan on prevention of radicalization and violent extremism.

The County Chief Officer for de-radicalization and counter violent extremism Mohamed Adan Osman said the action plan will mainly highlight the psycho-social aspects and ideological issues that make youth join terror groups.

Adan said the initiative marks a defining moment for the County in the fight against violent extremism.

The six-year plan he said is the only way to help eradicate radicalization and in the process reduce cases of terrorist attacks in the region.

Adan said Mandera has suffered enormous economic losses, including the closure of quarries, a major source of livelihood for locals.

Mandera Governor Ali Roba welcomed the idea saying it has the full support of the County Government noting that for the County to progress economically they must combat terrorism.
