It was a sigh of relief for two convicts serving life sentences for robbery with violence after their time in prison was reduced to 15 years.

High Court Judge Jesse Njagi ruled that Geoffrey Nakhami and Michael Ajuoga were remorseful having been in custody for more than 14-and-a-half years. Their respective probation reports, Njagi said, were favourable to them.
Nakhami and Ajuoga were convicted on June 23, 2004 after they were found guilty of multiple counts of robbery with violence and being in possession of firearms.
The trial court found them guilty of robbing Rasiklal Kantailal Sh40,000, jewellery, including a golden necklace and two golden finger rings, among other goods, on December 7, 2004. The jewellery was valued at Sh75,000.
At the time of the robbery, they were armed with two pistols which they used to mete out violence on the complainant.
On the same day, the convicts were found guilty of robbing Jotham Mukhaisi of a car valued Sh800,000 which they used to transport the stolen goods.
Mr Kantialal is said to have been accosted by a gang of four in his residential house.
The assailants demanded for money from the trader before making away with his golden ornaments and other household items.
During the attack, they called Mukhaisi, taxi driver taxi, telling him they wanted to take a patient to a hospital in Kanduyi.
Mukhaisi drove the two to Rasiklal’s house where they found his hands bound with ropes and lying on the floor with his family.
The matter was reported to the police and a search recovered the vehicle on the same day. The two were arrested soon thereafter.
Ajuoga was arrested in his house and the golden necklace recovered
