Activists want officer arrested for allegedly battering expectant wife

Gender activists in Mbeere South are demanding the arrest of a police officer who allegedly battered and seriously injured his expectant wife.

The woman who is currently admitted at Kimbimbi hospital is Kirinyaga is reported to be nine months pregnant.

Mbeere South OCPD Ahmed Mohamed said an official report was yet to be made on the incident but assured that his office would investigate the matter.

Embu County Chief Executive Committee member in charge of gender Joan Mwende said the police officer has a history of assault.

Speaking during the 16 days of activism against gender based violence, Mwende demanding his arrest said he was allegedly threatening those who rushed his wife to hospital.

The CEC urged women to report cases of assault to end gender based violence adding that sexual violence against both girls and boys was on the rise.

She was speaking in Embu town where she flagged off a caravan during the 16 days of activism against gender based violence.
