Adelle and Shaffie comment about woman claiming school system is devilish

We all know that education is quite important, but what happens when a parent denies their kids the right to education?

Well, Lydia Manyasa, a woman from Kibera was detained at Kilimani police station on Monday for refusing to take her children to school.

She said that the reason she cannot allow her children to go to school is because the new curriculum is devilish.

She worships at Kanisa La Yesu in Makongeni along Jogoo Road, Nairobi.

“Nemis is devilish. My Bible says no and even God didn’t go to school,” Manyasa said.

When asked to choose between school and jail, the children aged eight and 10 years said they would rather be locked up in the cell than go to school.

The interesting part about this church is that it has no pastor, just worshipers and the same church does not allow them to go to school or hospital.

Manyasa said she wants her children to learn tailoring instead.

Now this is one discussion that has got Adelle and Shaffie confused. During the morning conversation, Shaffie gave his take on the whole issue stating that the woman is desperate and last time he checked, education was compulsory.

“This lady is very desperate. Look at it this way. She hails from Kibra but this church is somewhere on Jogoo Road. So where does she get the chums or the time to leave Kibera to Makongeni on Jogoo road to go to church. And then, do they go everyday, is it every morning, is it Sundays like conventional churches. There are things even the government can’t force anyone to do. But I know for a fact, it’s compulsory for all kids to go to school to get an education. I don’t think putting her in jail in Kilimani is the solution.”

Do you think this lady should let her kids go to school or should she follow the rules of the church?
