Prison wardens based at Bungoma GK Prison have called on the Commissioner of Prisons to transfer the officer in charge.
The officers, who spoke on condition of anonymity for fear of losing their jobs, claimed that the newly deployed boss to the station is ruling them with an iron fist.
The warders claim that Wilfred Kati who is an assistant commissioner of prisons does not consult and always shouts them down or threatens them with a sack or transfer if they dare raise a complaint.
“Since I was deployed here six years ago, I haven’t met a boss like this one who is always right and dissenting voice is a sign of disrespect and rudeness which is punishable,” said an officer.
“His behaviour has led to low working morale among the officers, we work 24/7 and those who manage an off are always contacted at the wee hours of the night and assigned a duty, we want the commissioner of prisons to transfer him or the worst will take place in this correctional facility,” he said.
The officers alleged that Kati brags of having good relations with his seniors and threatens to transfer some of them to far flung areas.
“We thought that as our boss, he should create a good working relationship with us. Why is he threatening us every time? We are actually tired and fear working with him. We need change or else let us be transfered to other facilities,” they said.
Two weeks ago, the prison in charge assaulted a procurement officer at the facility leading to the serious body harm.

Patrick Chemobo who has since been transferred to Isiolo GK Prison as a punishment was treated and discharged at Bungoma County Referral Hospital.
Bungoma South DCIO Joseph Nzioka confirmed that indeed Chemobo had reported the matter in his office and they were investigating the incident with the aim of taking action against the culprit.
“Yes, they were in my office. I have assigned my officers to investigate the incident,” said Nzioka.
At the same time it is alleged that. Kati also went and reported at the Bungoma Police Station on how he had been assaulted by his junior.
Chemobo said that he had only asked his boss why he wanted him to release four new tyres so that they are fitted into his personal car which is against the procurement rules and regulations.
Chemobo who had been transferred to Shikutsa GK Prison in Kakamega appealed the decision and was sent back to Bungoma in June.
“The human resource board granted me an appeal on August 20 allowing me to report back but I was summoned by my boss on August 23 and told that I had been transferred to Isiolo GK Prison as a general duty officer,” he said.
The disgruntled officers are accusing the prison in charge of planning Chemobo’s transfer so that he could replace him with a lady officer who is close to him and it is alleged that they might be intimately involved
