- Chelsea vs Liverpool finished 2-1 in favour of the Reds
- Two first half goals from Alexander-Arnold and Firmino gifted the visitors the win
- Liverpool have now opened a five-point lead at the summit of the log
Liverpool have made clear their intent to challenge for the title after stunning Chelsea 2-1 at Stamford Bridge in a Premier League cracker played on Sunday, September 22.
The Reds were keen to return to winning ways after being handed a wake-up call in midweek as they suffered defeat to Napoli in the Champions League.
Frank Lampard was out to ensure Chelsea continue with their resurgence after a shaky start to life at the helm of affairs.
However, two first half goals from Trent Alexander-Arnold and Roberto Firmino were enough to ensure the Jurgen Klopp-tutored side continues their dominance in the league.
The hosts were forced into early substitutions, with Andreas Christensen and Emerson Palmieri all being forced out after picking injuries.
The changes left Chelsea's backline porous, with Liverpool taking advantage to ensure they kill the game early.

Alexander-Arnold opened the lead for the visitors just 14 minutes into the match, slotting home from Mohamed Salah's assist.
The Blues looked like they had restored parity in the 27th minute via César Azpilicueta, but the Spaniard's goal was disallowed after a review by the VAR.

Firmino went on to double the lead for the Reds three minutes later, heading past Kepa from Robertson's curled free-kick.
The second half of the match saw Chelsea announce their presence, pulling one back via N'Golo Kante who forced a rising shot that beat the diving Adrian.
The spectacular goal was however a mere consolation as the Reds held on to claim maximum points away from home.
