Controlled bomb explosion to be conducted in Nairobi, police call for calm

The police has asked the public not to panic when they hear a bomb exploding in Nairobi.

Bomb experts from DCI combed the Dusit hotel that left 21 dead and found a bomb which they are to detonate.

"We are still combing the scene for any remaining explosives or booby traps that could have been left by the slain attackers," they tweeted on Thursday.

"So far one explosive has been found and taken for detonation in a safe area. This is to caution members of the public not to panic should they hear a blast since it will be a safe blast."

After 19 hours of terror, gunfire, bloodshed and confusion, the siege at the DusitD2 hotel complex ended as it emerged that two of the attackers are from Kiambu and Nyeri.

Police found documents in their pockets that seemed to reveal their identities and were confirming details.

On Thursday, experts dusted the vehicle believed to have carried explosives at DusitD2.

Earlier, the Director of Criminal Investigations sought information following DusitD2 attack as it works to establish the motive, preparation and associates of the five slain terrorists.

The information should be reported at the DCI headquarters or at any police station. People can also call the National Police Service emergency hotlines - 999, 112 and 911.
