Eight suspects have been arrested in connection with the defilement of a 13-year-old girl at Shauri Yako estate in Homa Bay town on Thursday last week.
They are being held at Homa Bay police station.
The girl was raped and her private parts mutilated using a razor blade.
Homa Bay county police commander Marius Tum on Saturday said the suspects are being interrogated.
The Standard Eight pupil was defiled when she went to relieve herself.
"We are still carrying out the investigations to find out whether the act was pre-planned," Tum said.
The girl is receiving treatment at Nairobi Women's Hospital.
She will undergo reconstructive surgery.
