Foods to avoid if you are trying to lose weight

Aye, so you have decided to lose weight right? Good for you and congratulations. But that will call for a lifestyle change. You will definitely have to let go of your more unhealthy habits but the fun doesn’t end there. You will also have to let go of some of your favourite foods until cheat day.

You see, nothing worth having comes easy so you will have to sacrifice for that dream body you want. And I have done some research and compiled a list of some everyday foods you would do well to keep away from.

Chipo na kuku

If you work in town or study close to a fast food joint, it is a simpler and cheaper option of having a meal. You pop in, make your order and leave. Unfortunately, this is one of the main reasons why you are fat. They need to go.

White bread

White bread is highly refined and often contains a lot of added sugar. It is high on the glycemic index and can spike your blood sugar levels. I literally had to Google that.

One study of 9,267 people found that eating two slices (120 grams) of white bread per day was linked to a 40% greater risk of weight gain and obesity.

Soda

This is the unhealthiest food on the planet. The only unhealthier food would be a cocaine-heroin sandwich. Sugary drinks aren’t only linked to obesity, they also cause a whole host of lifestyle diseases like diabetes. The worst thing about liquid sugar is though it is laden with calories, it doesn’t fill you up, So you just keep eating.

Sweets

You know those chocolate bars you like? The ones you convince yourself are healthy because chocolate is, you would be sorely mistaken. Chocolate bars pack a lot of added sugar, added oils and refined flour into a small package.

They are high in calories and low in nutrients.

“Healthy” fruit juices

You know how your favourite juice likes to market itself as a healthy soft drink alternative? And here we are not talking about the chemicals that are Quencher. Well, most fruit juices you find at the supermarket have very little in common with whole fruit. Fruit juices are highly processed and loaded with sugar. In fact, they can contain just as much sugar and calories as soda, if not more.

Cakes

Not even going to explain this one!

Ice cream

Nope.

Pizza

Not even on cheat day.

Just kidding, the icing on the cake is as fattening as can be and the amount of sugar you have to add to it is an issue. Ice cream is laden with sugar and high in calories. And as for the pizza, transfats. Google the term.
