Former Arsenal and Manchester United striker Robin Van Persie has placed Arsene Wenger above Sir Alex Ferguson in his tier of influential managers.
The Dutchman, who only recently retired from football after his final spell with Feyenoord, believes his former boss at Arsenal had a far bigger impact in the Premier League than his arch United rival Ferguson.

He was speaking during an interesting session with Sportbible dubbed Versus, where he compared several elements of the beautiful game including two successful managers who have previously managed him.
According to RVP, Wenger was a bigger influence for the simple fact that he helped him develop from a young age.
"The biggest influence must be Wenger, because he was the one who worked with me. I came in as a kid and he helped me develop. He saw something in me. Sometimes I messed up. I got a silly red card or - as kids do - I made mistakes. But he still gave me another chance. Chance after chance sometimes,” He said as quoted by Sportbible.

Van Persie joined Arsenal in 2004 as a promising 21-year old and made some development under the guidance of Arsene Wenger.
Unfortunately for the Dutchman, he arrived just as the Gunners had ended celebrations of their famous invincibles season, hence he never won the title under Wenger.

With Ferguson, however, things looked promising and he ended up winning the title with Manchester United at his very first season with the club (2012/2013).
Because of this, Van Persie has nothing but praise for the retired Ferguson whom he described as special.
“Sir Alex was at a different time because I came as a mature player. But I'm very happy to have worked with those two great managers - only a couple of players can say they worked under both!" he said.Do you have an inspirational story you would like us to publish?
