Chief Administrative Secretary in the Ministry of Youth and Gender Affairs Rachel Shebesh says talks are underway to increase finances to enable youth women and persons with disability stabilize their businesses.

This comes as she faulted Isiolo south leaders for failing to set up a committee to oversee the disbursement of Uwezo funds in the region denying the beneficiaries access.

Speaking in Isiolo town when she visited to monitor and evaluate progress in the issuance of affirmative action funds, cited it is unfair for residents of Isiolo South to be denied access to the government funds owing to delays by their leaders to establish the requisite committee to enable them to receive the funds.

She called upon area legislators to take responsibility and ensure that the all-important committee is up and running as soon as possible in order to enable their constituents to benefit from the government fund.

Shebesh noted that most businesses have been adversely affected by the COVID-19 pandemic adding that the department was considering doubling the amount of money currently being offered to various groups as a bare minimum.

According to Shebesh, one of the major challenges experienced in the roll-out of the various funding programmes in the region was the nomadic nature of recipients, which makes it hard for officers to monitor and evaluate if the funds are being used prudently.
