PRAGUE — An attacker shot and killed six people and seriously injured two others on Tuesday at close range in a hospital waiting room in the eastern Czech city of Ostrava, the authorities said, and there were fears the toll could rise.
The police said on Twitter that they were searching for the gunman after the attack at the University Hospital in Ostrava, about 220 miles east of Prague, which took place around 7 a.m.
A photograph of the assailant was released, but he was not identified and the motivation for the attack was not clear.
