Politics 04:01 Thursday December 20,2018-Kenya African National Union (KANU ) Secretary General , Nick Salat, has for the first time revealed why Deputy President William Ruto do not see eye to eye with the KANU chairman Gideon Moi.
The two Rift Valley kingpins have been enemies for years if not decades. Now in an interview with one of the local dailies on Thursday, Salat said the genesis of the enmity between Ruto and Gideon started a couple of years ago when Ruto used unpalatable words to refer to Gideon and his father Retired President Daniel Moi. “Our chairman, who is the Baringo Senator, is ready for any peace talks with DP Ruto but the elders who have shown that they would like to mediate between the duos must understand the genesis of the rift. "DP Ruto should ask for forgiveness from the family of the former president because he is the one who has been saying unpalatable things about them," Salat said. Salat, who is a close ally of Gideon, said the idea of settling scores is welcome, but said Ruto should not hope that Gideon will step down for him during the 2022 presidential race. “As a party, we cannot accept mediation if our chair will be asked to step down for Mr Ruto. Kanu will provide alternative leadership because, as Rift Valley, we cannot put all our eggs in one basket," he said.
