You must recall that a couple of weeks ago, 3 Kisii leaders attempted to gate crash into Uhuru's meeting with Luo leaders. The meeting had been arranged with the specific agenda of discussing development projects in Luo Nyanza, and so the Kisii leaders were politely asked to excuse the meeting.

It was a little bizarre for such senior leaders well versed on protocol to pull such a goof, but there was also talk that the little skit was staged on behalf of the opponents of 'the handshake', and was geared towards not only embarrassing Uhuru and Raila, but also towards inciting Kisii Nyanza against Luo Nyanza.
But that is besides the point. The point is that it would appear that the Kisii leaders were advised to go back and sit with the rest of the elected leadership of the entire Gusii, draw up an agenda, identify projects and name a date, and the President would only be too happy to hop all over Gusii meeting everyone on sight and launching every project on his path.

And so for the last couple of weeks, they met a couple of times and agreed the Office of the President on everything including the date. Well, not quite everything because no sooner had the date and itinerary of the much publicised President's visit to Gusii was announced, than it was cancelled. No reason was provided for the cancellation of the visit, and there has been loads of speculation, but the most plausible i have heard thus far is the fact that the main project that the President was set to launch is the big modern morgue that has been built at the Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital.

Now, it is claimed that the intelligence guys advised the President to cancel the trip because the vibe that had caught on was that while he has been going round Central Province launching such projects as dams, hospitals and roads to uplift his people socially and economically, he was coming to Gusii to launch a morgue so that more of us would die. Of course Uhuru is not out to see as many of us Kisiis as possible lying dead inside cold storage facilities, but anyone who understands the optics of this situation would advice him to cancel the trip. Especially if the intelligence reports also suggest that he is walking into a trap, and that that narrative that he is bringing death instead of development didn't just drop down from the blue, but that it is being actively fanned across Gusii by enemies of 'the handshake'. And that is why heading out towards 2022, anyone who'll be following Gusii politics without a huge bowl of pop corn is a fool!
