The combative Malindi MP Aisha Jumwa has launched a scathing attack on Kilifi county governor Amason Kingi for allegedly threatening officials investigating a case in which a man was shot dead in Mshongoleni village in Ganda during the recent local by-election campaign.
Speaking to reporters in Kakuyuni in her parliamentary constituency, Jumwa indicated that the governor had been forcing the police to arrest her even before investigating officers had completed their report in the matter.
According to the vocal legislator, the governor had used the Ganda case to ruin her reputation and paint her in the negativity. The governor is accused of having made false accusations against the legislator in an orchestrated move to blind Kilifi residents on his crimes against the residents of the county.
Moreover, Jumwa stated that Kingi is not a reliable and trusted leader of the Mijikenda community but a leader who uses his power to benefit himself and his immediate family and cronies.
In addition, Jumwa claimed that there is no meaningful agenda the governor had made to benefit the residents of Kilifi, but instead, he has kept using the assets of the county treasury, through Raindrop, a company he had contracted, to collect taxes from the county’s businessmen.
The county government has a unit that operates tax collection unit where the governor allegedly receives Sh2 million a month from the company in accordance to their contract in which it is stated that the matter was confidential.
The MP said she is ready to take the blame for the benefit of Kilifi MPs and not because she is afraid of corrupt officials who are trying to appease Raila Odinga and his deputy, Mombasa county governor Hassan Joho.
Jumwa said that she is ready to be imprisoned as long as the Kilifi youth get work opportunities, better health, education and patents rather than imprisonment just because Kingi has said or Joho has said so..
