Education Cabinet Secretary Prof. George Magoha has directed education officials to inspect the Junior classrooms that have been constructed in private schools within the next six weeks.

He also instructed all Competency Based Curriculum (CBC) classroom contractors to submit their documents for payment at Jogoo House adding that second phase of construction will begin towards the end of the month.

Speaking Thursday in Kiambu County during his tour of 100% transition mop up exercise of form ones at Kiandutu slums, the CS also directed Kenya University of Colleges Central Placement (KUCCPS) to open its systems for university and college placement application and revision of choices.

“On the issue primary schools in the private sector, there are very many private schools which have already constructed an extra classroom for CBC and am going to direct the Director Quality Assurance Ministry of Education Dr. Mary Gaturu to go full blast supported by PS Dr. Julius Jwan that these schools should be inspected within the next six weeks so that the public is aware that the following private primary schools are going to be used as Junior Secondary Schools. The Private schools have the capacity to train their own teachers. There are very many teachers who are unemployed and they just teach them so that they can be able to teach in the private primary schools,” said Magoha.

“For the private secondary schools that have complied and they want to have a junior secondary school, am waiting for the list which should be from the beginning of June and I will personally inspect them and ensure that they conform to what we have told them to do,” added Magoha.

The CS has urged all education officials and administrators to ensure every learner who sat for the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) exam in 2021 must be taken and admitted to secondary school.

The CS was flanked by KUCCPS CEO Dr. Agnes Wahome.
