Kenyan scramble players kick off with win in scramble tournament

Kenyan players registered positive results as the 13th edition of the Africa scrabble championship kicked off Thursday at Destination Resort in Kirinyaga County.

The continental event has attracted 60 players drawn from different African countries.

Kenya’s veteran player Nderitu Gitonga has an easy outing easily seeing off Raymond Ngaraba of Nigeria.

Manasseh Otieno defeated Uganda’s Chris Ndege to stamp his authority in the opening round.

Macharia Kimani defeated compatriot Onami Magwanga, while Muema Muumbi saw off Uganda’s Richard Geria.

This year’s event has attracted 60 players drawn from hosts Kenya, Nigeria, South Africa, Zambia, Uganda and Tanzania among other countries.

The last edition of the Africa scrabble championship was held in 2016 in Ghana where Kenya finished second behind World top ranked nation Nigeria while hosts Ghana finished third.
