Livestock farmers to benefit from Ksh 22M vaccine donation

The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) has donated livestock vaccines worth Ksh22 million to the West Pokot County Government in efforts aimed at making the area disease-free.

FAO Country Director Dr Tobias Takavarasha says the FAO will engage neighbouring counties in a similar disease eradication initiative.

Even though livestock is the mainstay for most residents of West Pokot County, erratic weather patterns and diseases have seen herds losing their herds.

Some of the diseases are said to spread from neighbouring Uganda.

FAO has committed to replicate the initiative in neighbouring areas in an initiative aimed at reducing the spread of livestock diseases.

The National Government further plans to pilot poultry and small ruminants farming value chain programme that will engage the youth.
