A cross section of teachers from Yatta subcounty in Machakos are up in arms against senior Knut officials for running down the branch. The angry teachers in particular pointed out an accusing finger at both branch executive secretary Kasimba Ngui and treasurer Munyao Mbondo for being behind the woes now bedeviling the union. They cited cases where the burial benevolent fund has collapsed with teachers now finding it hard to bury their family members as no funds are no longer available. What is further shocking the teachers is that the same fund is well running in other sub branches across the country. Education stakeholders in Yatta have accused both union leaders of siphoning money meant for teachers and privately investing in property. According to a source, Kasimba is busy setting up a private school in Yatta, while his sideshow, treasurer Mbondo, is putting up residential houses in Matuu.

KNUT Seceretary General Wilson Sossion in addressing teachers in a past event

The same teachers cite a case where the union’s bus bought by members has been hired out on weekly bases but the accounts remain dry and no explanation is given during annual general meeting. According to them, the bus is hired at a cost of Sh40,000 three times in a week to locals attending social events. In order to escape the blame and flee from teachers who are now scheming to oust him, Kasimba was firmly in the group of national officials who were backing the removal of Wilson Sossion as the national executive secretary of the giant teachers union. Kasimba was allied to anti-Sossion camp with the aim of scooping one national post during Knut AGM but his efforts were thwarted after the courts issued injunction reinstating Sossion as the boss. Both Kasimba and Mbondo blame Interior cabinet secretary Fred Matiang’i for interfering with Knut matters. They say Matiang’i uses his younger brother who is the national treasurer at Knut to help Sossion and curtail their efforts to remove him. Back in Yatta, teachers are plotting to hold demonstrations across the entire branch and call for their removal and elect new officials
