DAILY POST: Many State officers in Kenya only know how to steal from public coffers – KINOTI says and vows to send them to KAMITI before he retires 03:44 Thursday December 20, 2018-Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI), George Kinoti, has said State officers who are in senior positions in the government are stealing public money like there is no tomorrow.
In an interview with a local daily on Tuesday, Kinoti said that the vested interests of State officers shielding themselves have impeded efforts to rid the country of graft. Kinoti said a number of graft suspects had found refuge in the DCI and Ethics and Anti Corruption Commission (EACC) by bribing officials during investigations. “What we found upon assuming office was mind-boggling. It was pure economic thuggery. Some of the cases, among them very sensitive ones, have been with the EACC for years,” he said. Kinoti vowed to go full blast and arrest all state officers who engage in corruption. He said he will start with CEOs and board members since these are positions where billions of shillings are lost through graft every year. The DCI has been investigating multi-billion-shilling scandals at the Kenya Pipeline Company, National Youth Service, Kenya Power, NHIF and the National Cereals and Produce Board.
