A teenager told a court how she suffered abuse at the hands of her mother’s friend.

The 16-year-old girl said Charles Muiruri Gichiru, who is facing defilement charges, went to their house and lied to her that he had a letter in his house, which he wanted her to pick for her mother.
She told Kakamega Senior Principal Magistrate Erick Malesi that her sick mother had not reported to work at a local bakery for two days.
“I have known the accused for four months. He is a neighbour. He said he had a letter for my mother that I needed to collect,” said the minor.

“He put on a condom and defiled me. It was painful. He covered my mouth so that I couldn’t scream. Some minutes later, someone knocked on his door and called my name. But he lied that I had left,” said the girl.

The girl’s mother told the court that she rushed to Muiruri’s house, and demanded to know the whereabouts of her daughter.
“I was at a nearby shop. When I returned, I was told that my daughter had gone to Muiruri’s house. I hurried to that house and shouted her name. She answered me in a low tone like someone who was struggling,” said the mother.

The court heard that afterwards Muiruri opened the door and ordered the girl to dress and leave. “I confronted him but he disappeared in a waiting motorcycle,” the girl’s mother said.
Medical examinations conducted at Kakamega County General Hospital, which were produced as exhibits during the case, confirmed the defilement.
The accused was arrested at Muliro Gardens. He had been allegedly calling the girl’s mother to induce her with Sh10, 000 in order to ignore the case. The matter was adjourned to January 24, when the doctor who examined the girl is expected to testify.
