Nassir, Omar blame Kalonzo for Sonko Mombasa entry – Weekly Citizen

Mvita MP and ODM Mombasa gubernatorial candidate Abdulswamad Nassir and UDA’s Hassan Omar have separately accused Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka for allegedly imposing former Nairobi governor Mike Sonko on Mombasa city electorates. Nassir has further told Kalonzo to stop meddling in Mombasa county politics.

Abdulswamad Nassir

Speaking during an interview with Mombasa radio stations, the Mvita MP claimed Sonko’s entry was a wider scheme by the Wiper leader to interfere and scatter Raila Odinga’s votes in Mombasa. “If Kalonzo is interested in Mombasa politics, let him come and contest himself and stop sending his people. I recently traveled with Sonko and he never told me that he will be vying in Mombasa. So all you are seeing and hearing are Kalonzo’s political machinations to undermine Raila,” Nassir claimed. On his part, former Mombasa senator Omar has termed the entry of Sonko in the port city governor race as an insult to the people of Mombasa, arguing that the former Nairobi governor is not his own man but a political project of Kalonzo.

Hassan Omar

Speaking during an Iftar function in Majengo, Mvita constituency, Omar called on Mombasa residents to ignore Sonko who allegedly “intends to export the confusion he created in Nairobi to Mombasa”. However, Nassir and Omar remarks have been dismissed as a sign of fear and panic of Sonko’s popularity. Speaking at a press conference, Wiper parliamentary aspirants from the six constituencies of Mombasa said the two politicians are a creation of Mombasa governor Hassan Joho and therefore mere projects of a failed administration. “It is in the public domain that Nassir is a front of Joho who has nothing to write home about any gains of devolution to Mombasa people.

Mike Sonko

He should be the last person to brand anyone as a project since he is an obvious project of some Mombasa cartels who want to use him to continue looting the county government,” said Millicent Odhiambo who is eyeing the Nyali MP seat on Wiper ticket. She cautioned Omar against dragging the Wiper leader into his political failures, saying Kalonzo is a national leader while the UDA candidate cannot beat Sonko even if he teams up with Nassir. Mohamed Juma who is eyeing the Mvita seat on Wiper ticket said Mombasa is cosmopolitan and any Kenyan is free to contest an elective seat, advising Nassir and Omar to organise their campaigns well as Sonko cannot be wished away. Sheikh Twaha, the Mombasa county Wiper chairman said Sonko is coming to redeem Mombasa from theft and decay from selfish leaders who have no interest of common man at heart.
