Gor Mahia coach Steven Polack has revealed that he has identified four local players in the Kenyan Premier League (KPL) whom he intends to sign during the transfer window.

Polack told Nation Sport on Friday that he is already strategising for next season and his main target is excelling in the Caf Champions League.

The tactician said that the players have impressed him and he will sign them as a replacement for those who will leave after the end of their contract and those deemed as a surplus in the K’Ogalo squad.

"I have started preparing for next season in earnest because the contracts of four or five of my players will be ending soon. I have identified sharp local players who will reinforce my squad next season. I will not go for foreigners because there is enough talent here in Kenya," Polack, who fell short of naming the players, said.

The Briton also said that he is aware of the imminent exit of some players due to financial constraints and also disclosed that there has been no negotiation with those whose contracts will be running out.

"We have not negotiated with them so far because of the financial issues. As at now, there is no way forward concerning their future at the club but I am sure I will sign the players I have watched and have faith in," Polack added.

Kenyan international defender Joash Onyango, Charles Momanyi and versatile attacker Boniface Omondi are among the players whose contracts with K'Ogalo ends this year.

LEAGUE SUSPENDED

However, Nation Sport understands there are a number of senior team players who are on the verge of leaving the reigning KPL champions after failing to receive their salaries for several months.

Polack hinted at integrating a number of younger players into the senior team. In the past, youthful K’Ogalo players who’ve joined the senior side have proved their worth.

Amos Nondi, Raphael Asudi, Tedy Osok, Alphonce Ombija, Elvis Osok, Kennedy Agogo and Alpha Onyango, who were elevated to the senior team in the past, turned out to be dependable players at Gor and other clubs they were either sold or taken on loan to.

Polack, however, said he would not overhaul the team for the sustainability and unity of his players.

Concerning the impasse on how the winner of the league should be decided, Polack continued his onslaught on the Kenyan Premier League, terming it a body without a plan.

"They should have taken a position rather than this wait-and-see attitude. They should have had a plan B instead of waiting for a government directive in every situation," he said.

Gor are on track to win their fourth straight KPL title if everything goes according to plan. They top the league table with 54 points, seven more than second place Kakamega Homeboyz with 10 matches to go.

The league still stands indefinitely suspended due to the coronavirus.
