Tension is again building up within the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga family after plans to kick out the only surviving widow of the late Doyen of opposition politics, Jaramogi Oginga Odinga, out of her Kisumu residence leaked out.

Susan Odinga who has been staying at the late Odinga’s house at the Millimani where it overlooks Lake Victoria is supposed to vacate the home in order to pave way for the upgrading of the house as a national heritage.

Top officials of the National Museums of Kenya have visited the home in order to assess the situation on the ground. The NMK chairman is Mzalendo Kibunja.

One of the top officials who spoke to Weekly Citizen on condition of anonymity expressed surprise that Susan was not aware of such plans.

The official said that former Prime Minister Raila Odinga is behind plans to upgrade the home to a national heritage so that President Uhuru Kenyatta can visit it during the much awaited launch of the Kisumu Port.

“She told us that the home needs to be refurbished so that the infrastructure there is improved on” the museum official said.

Susan is the mother of a former Councillor at the Kisumu Municipal Council Isaac Omondi Odinga whose relationship with other family members has been frosty. Omondi represented the Milimani ward as a councillor.

The removal of Susan who was among Jaramogi’s eight wives is likely to stir mixed reactions.

She has been carrying out tailoring business in Kisumu town for many years.

Susan used to do the business on Accra Street but later moved to the middle of the Central Business District CBD).
