Ruto Coast MPs join Joho – Weekly Citizen

Kisauni MP Ali Mbogo and his Nyali counterpart Mohamed Ali have quietly pulled out of the tangatanga movement associated with William Ruto.

Msambwenii MP Suleiman Dori

Apart from the duo, Msambweni MP Suleiman Dori who is also the Coast parliamentary group chairman has also gone mute on Ruto. The MPs have for the last few months been avoiding the DP’s political meetings in the region.

For Mbogo, he has recently attended two meetings hosted by Mombasa governor Hassan Joho. Mbogo it is understood, has mended fences with the governor in exchange for political support for his 2022 governor bid.

Kisauni MP Ali Mbogo

A Coast MP who is still in the tangatanga camp however told Weekly Citizen that Mbogo was in the verge of committing political suicide after having been “trapped since there is no way Joho will throw his weight behind the Kisauni MP for Mombasa governorship in total disregard of his loyalists like Likoni MP Mishi Mboko”.

Other sources say Mbogo had found the going rough in his constituency which is a predominantly ODM support base hence decided to crossover and flow with the political current for the time being. He won the seat on a Wiper ticket and defeated a Joho henchman Rashid Bedzimba.

In Nyali, the MP famously known as Jicho Pevu has had several altercations with his constituents for advancing DP’s political interests in the constituency. He won the seat as an independent candidate. Majority of voters in the constituency are ODM leader Raila Odinga’s loyalists.

Jomvu MP Badi Twalib

The only Mombasa MP who has stuck wit the DP so far, is Jomvu’s Badi Twalib. However, other sources claim he has of late been meeting with Joho secretly. His main opponent on Jubilee party in he last general elections Karisa Nzai has reportedly been approached by Joho allies to be their candidate in the constituency in 2022.

In Kwale, apart from Dori whose support for the DP has become shaky after his expulsion from ODM was suspended, Lungalunga’s Khatib Mwashetani is rumoured to be a Joho sidekick whom the Mombasa governor is grooming for the Kwale gubernatorial seat.

Salim Mvurya

Salim Mvurya, the county governor has also developed cold feet on DP Ruto after he failed to land the chairmanship of the COG. The governor’s close associates have been overheard blaming the DP for not having done enough to help Mvurya occupy the coveted position inspite of having served as the vice chairperson.

In Kilifi county, governor Amason Kingi is no longer keen on Ruto. He has quietly joined the handshake which he initially opposed.
