DAILY POST: SAD! This brilliant young man DAVID MAINA, a student at Leeds University was shot DEAD by police in Kibera (VIDEO) , , , 02:48 Wednesday, December 26, 2018- The fatal shooting of a Leeds University student Carlton David Maina in Kibera has put Kenya police officers on the spot.
The 23-year travelled from UK to visit his family in Kenya but was felled by a rogue cop’s bullet on December 22 in Kibera where his mother lives. Carlton was a brilliant young man with a bright future but his only crime is living in a slum where police deem most youths in slums as criminals. He scored a straight A in KCSE from Maseno School in 2013 and was involved in several projects in Kibera. His death has sparked outrage on social media forcing Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinnet to direct the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) to expedite investigations into the incident.  “We wish to inform the public that the Inspector General of Police has asked IPOA to expedite investigations into the shooting incident that occurred in Kibera within Nairobi County in which one Carlton Maina was shot and fatally injured,” read tweet posted in the National Police Service. “We further wish to assure the public that the service, just like in similar instances in the past, will enforce the outcome of the investigations that IPOA will recommend.” The deceased’s love for football earned him a scholarship at the UK college soon after clearing his high school education at the Maseno School in 2013 where he emerged with an A-plain. Watch the video of the late David delivering a TED talk early this year below.
Brilliant young life cut short #JusticeForMaina . Many adults cannot express themselves so eloquent let alone his agemates. We should not criminalise living in Kibera or any other slum for that matter. He was also behind a biogas invention as clean energy . RIP Maina. pic.twitter.com/A7Lzkz5JJz — Mohammed Hersi (@mohammedhersi) December 26, 2018
