A pick up vehicle ferrying Miraa from Meru to Liboi was Sunday night hijacked by suspected members of the Al Shabaab militia, about 5 kilometres from Liboi town.

The vehicle which had three occupants was later seen at Dagalema border area crossing over to Somalia.

Confirming the 8:30pm incident, North Eastern Regional Police Commander, David Bunei, told KBC on phone that the hijackers later released the occupants of the vehicle and drove away the vehicle after offloading the several sacks of Miraa that were being transported.

He said those released include the driver Abdikaddir Hassan Elmi, Abdullahi Issak Harun- a Miraa dealer and Habiba Abdi Sirat who had hiked a lift.
