Business came at a stand still in Nairobi’s Kariobangi Estate following a dramatic clash between the area residents and the police.
The police invaded the area arresting boda boda operators and matutu operators at Kariobangi North stage before extending their sting to the hawkers and barbers.
It was at this point that the operation became murky and the residents started engaging the police.
The police fired two times in the air to disperse the rowdy crowd that had staged a protest against them.
‘‘Hawa polisi walikam hapa na kuanza kushika kila mtu, wanatoa watu kwa vinyozi, wakikupata juu ya Ndudhi wanakushika mpaka sisi tukashanga ni vipi hizi michuki rules zinafanyika hadi kwa vinyozi [These police officer came and started arresting everybody including babers, boda boda operators and this made us to be so worried on how Michuki rules were being imposed inside a barber shop in the residential areas]’’ One of the resident lamented.
Meanwhile area MCA Maina Njoka has condemned the incident accusing the area police officers for using the Michuki rules to harass and intimidate residents.
He now want the area OCS to be transferred with immediate effect.
