13 Succumb to Covid-19 as 1,018 More Test Positive

Kenya on Wednesday, 1st September, confirmed 1,018 new Covid-19 cases from samples tested in the last 24 hours. This brings the country’s coronavirus caseload to 236,881.

Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe said in a press statement that the cases were detected from the 9,347 samples tested, raising the total to 2,380,918. The country’s positivity rate is at 10.9 per cent.

From the cases, 995 are Kenyans while 23 are foreigners with 522 being females and 496 males. The youngest is an 11-month-old infant while the oldest is 103.

Kagwe said 633 patients had recovered from the disease, 493 from the home-based isolation and care programme while 140 are from various health facilities countrywide. The total number of recoveries now stands at 224,270.

Some 13 patients have succumbed to the disease, taking the national death toll to 4,739.

There are 1,866 patients admitted to various health facilities countrywide, while 4,988 are under the home-based isolation and care programme.

At the same time,160 patients are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 99 of whom are on ventilatory support and 50 on supplemental oxygen while 11 are under observation.

Another 758 patients are separately on supplemental oxygen with 684 of them in general wards and 74 in High Dependency Units (HDU).
