Busia politician Emmanuel Osore has been arrested for allegedly shooting and injuring Maurice Wafula.
The shooting occurred on Thursday, during the Ford Kenya National Delegates Congress at the Bomas of Kenya.
In a statement, National Police Service spokesman Bruno Shioso said Osore who is the Busia county Ford Kenya chairman had a disagreement with one of the delegates and drew his gun.
“Infuriated, he drew his civilian licensed firearm and shot aimlessly injuring one Maurice Wafula,” Shioso said.
“Duty police promptly arrested him to face charges related to misuse of a firearm.”
Shioso cautioned all licensed firearm holders to exercise restraint and act responsibly when in possession of their licensed firearms, especially during the electioneering period.
On Thursday, Langata OCPD Benjamin Mwanthi confirmed a suspect was arrested but did not give any further details.
During the NDC, Ford Kenya endorsed Moses Wetang’ula for the top seat as a rival faction dismissed the meeting.
Wetang’ula was declared the party presidential candidate by the Congress, which also made radical changes to party leadership.
The Bungoma senator remains as the party leader but will now have two deputies, Millicent Abudho and Innocent Obiri, a position that until Thursday was held by Kitutu Chache South MP, Richard Onyonka.
The new secretary general is Kiminini MP Chris Wamalwa, while Joel Ruhu was named the party’s national chair.
