Fresh from winning Tuskys Wareng Cross Country Championships last weekend in Eldoret, World 10,000m bronze medallist Agnes Tirop is eyeing another victory on Saturday.
Tirop will be lining up at the Ziwa Farmers 10km road race in Uasin Gishu, where she is eyeing to defend her title.
The Iten-based athlete said that she is ready to meet other competitors as she seeks to win for the second time in a row.
“I have done good training and I will be looking forward to a good race where I want to retain my title. It’s a competitive race but the course is good which is advantageous to me,” said the athlete.
She further said that she loves participating in local races, which gives her more endurance before she goes to international assignments.
“It’s always fun to run at home and it always gives me endurance as part of my preparation ahead of major races,” said the athlete.
Tirop was rewarded with a brand new Mazda Demio vehicle after winning Tuskys Wareng Cross Country on Sunday.
She will be competing against Beijing Marathon champion Valary Jemeli, who was second in the race last year.
Jemeli said that she has prepared well and her goal is to be in the podium, seeking to improve her performance from last year.
“My preparation has been good and my target is to win the race. I will also be using the race as part of my training ahead of the season,” said the athlete.
Jemeli is preparing to participate in one of the major marathons next year.
“The season has started and I’m just waiting for communication from my manager so that I can know which race I will be participating in next year,” she told Nation Sport.
The winners in both categories will go home with Sh100,000 with runners-up taking 50,000, while third place will pocket Sh30,000.
The race is used to sensitise farmers on plants they need to grow.
