Kisumu police liaising with crooks – Weekly Citizen

Kisumu police are on spot following claims by members of the public who have accused top officers of colluding with dangerous criminals said to be behind a wave of criminal activities in the region.
The residents who are now living in fear want rogue police officers moved or they will soon stage demonstrations to push for their transfer.
Members of the public are a worried lot after word went round that the untouchable and dreaded Otek Team and China Squad and their gang leaders one Oliver Veti and and Munir Kirunda respectively are back in lakeside city with vengeance, targeting politicians and businessmen with an aim of extorting money from them and even demanding protection fee from other members of the public.
Veti is alleged to be behind gruesome crimes in Kisumu city. According to police, “this is young dangerous criminal on the loose who has partners is terrorising the community”.

Last month, the daring criminals escaped the wrath of locals when they broke into Sungura Lodging premises in Kisumu wearing masks.
According to an eye witness, the criminals who were armed to the teeth, ordered everybody to lie down before they started clobbering the owner of the premises but had a narrow escape from irate members of public.
Investigations by Weekly Citizen have revealed that the feared Otek Team gang members are being sponsored by an MCA who has been using Oliver and his team as guns for hire in terrorising members of public.
Kirunda is the first in command of the dreaded China Squad. He has come back with retaliation while targeting various political figures from whom they have been accused of demanding protection fee.
Kirunda whose citizenship and place of birth still remains cloudy has international criminal record as well as uncountable criminal activities and pending court cases in Kenya. Politicians who talked to Weekly Citizen claim that some of the group members have been calling them to demand huge sums of money to ostensibly protect them, while word from the street has it that a former MP is secretly bankrolling the China Squad to cause mayhem.

They say that most politicians targeted are the newly elected ODM MPs.They claim that the group has given them some terms and conditions and have threatened to use social media platform to scandalise their names and also to disrupt their meetings within Kisumu county.
Members of public are now a worried lot and keep on asking themselves who has given the group so much power to extort money with impunity.
The gang leaders are said to be close to the regional police. “How can an senior officer rely on information from dreaded criminals? Is it set a thief to catch a thief game?” a member of public lamented.
“This group brags of getting protection from highly placed personnel in the government and they fear nobody,” another resident said.
One of the group’s members when asked whether what they are doing is within the law, retorted arrogantly saying that they are associated with the top government officials hence they cannot be threatened by anybody.
According to the politician, this is an outlawed group hence that question why they extort from them with impunity.
Residents wondered since when did an illegal group start being a source of information that police can rely on and offer security to politicians. They asked the police to immediately launch investigations into the activities of the group and establish what exactly they doin Kisumu county, and its environs with the aim of prosecuting them.
They sent a passionate appeal to the Inspector General of Police Hillary Mutyambai, the Interior cabinet secretary Fred Matiang’i and DCI George Kinoti to intervene and launch investigations into the matter.
It is said that the two terror groups are only thought of when it comes to another general elections and politicians dump them once their mission is accomplished.
