Kivutha Kibwana Names his Conditions to Run for Presidency in 2022

Top perfoming Makueni County governor Kivutha Kibwana has givent the clearest hint yet that he could run for the top seat in 2022.

Speaking with delegates at the Public Finance and Tax 2018 Conference in Mombasa, Kivutha Kibwana said that he would reconsider his previous decision to retire from politics.

He outlined to the delegates some of the conditions that would make him consider running for presidency. He said that he wouldn’t mind going for the top seat ‘as long as he has support’.

“I would not mind. If 75 per cent of you (accountants) think it is a good idea and I get support of over 17,000 of you, I would take it serious,” Kibwana said.

The change of heart comes after an online campaign was launched by netizens asking Kivutha not to retire from politics and run for the presidency.

This followed Kibwana’s impressive development record as was highlighted at the devolution conference in April.

The governor also observed that counties have the potential to be lnders to the government to the national government if they chose to be serious investors

“If counties generate additional own sources of revenue, they can choose to invest by lending to the national government,” Kivutha suggested.
